'77 Fender Starcaster

The Fender that thinks it's a Gibson...

Few people remember the Starcaster these days. It was Fender's answer to Gibson's ever popular ES335. Unfortunately, although it was (and is) a fine guitar, it was at odds with everyone's idea of what a Fender should be. Fender is associated with solidbody guitars - this is semi-hollow. Fender guitars have single coil pickups - this has humbuckers.

They were made for only a couple of years from 1977, and forgotten. Suddenly in the past couple of years, however, have become popular with players and collectors.

This was also one of the first new Fender designs after the unpopular buyout of the company by CBS - and suffered from Fenders' diminished reputation at that time.

Lots of neat innovations: string-thru-body semi-acoustic, "micro-tilt" neck (sadly with the despised three-bolt design) and more.

Cool Features:

    - Flamey maple top
    - String-through-body for sustain
    - Master volume control
    - Fender humbuckers
    - HUGE headstock (not seen on any other Fender)
    - The infamous Fender three-bolt neck
